These are works in progress. The class has been painting with sponges a theme of ocean scenes. It has been fun trying to use various types of sponges to paint with acrylic paint. I like the sponges with the big holes in them that are sold for washing cars. Sean likes the sponges with the finer texture. The paintings are on watercolor paper. We did not work from photos but from our imagination that was the memory of many hours sitting on the bluffs above the ocean. Enjoy the pictures and let us know what you think. It is meant to bring the aceo out into the public view so even strangers can see you aceo. This one is a fabric aceo made from upcycled materials. I cut fannel fabric into strips. The fabric strips were then knitted into a container. A piece of foam core was inserted to keep the aceo stiff. It was then closed at the top. As the fabric strips were knitted the eyes and nose were added. The hair was added at the completion of the piece. I hope you enjoy it and it brings a smile to you face. Artist of the Day - Wolf KahnPosted by: admin in artists, contemporary artists, discussionsMany have seen Kahn’s high-key pastel landscapes, but few have seen his paintings. We discovered a book that has some of his painted works, “Wolf Kahn Landscape Painter” [ Taplinger Pub., 1981], {pen. lib. call. # 758 KAHN }. The book is mostly based on an exhibition at the Borgenicht Gallery, NYC, in 1979. Is it color field? What early influences? Hans Hoffman? Where is he now? Of course, if you have access to Artnet, you could check his entry: really interesting examples: http://www.artnet.com/artwork/425110259/424648151/wolf-kahn-light-and-shadow-on-the-river.html http://www.artnet.com/artwork/425036486/738/wolf-kahn-a-flood-marsh-in-maine.html http://www.artnet.com/artwork/424935195/45/wolf-kahn-trees-in-a-magenta-light.html http://www.artnet.com/artwork/424818784/154701/wolf-kahn-toward-krk.html http://www.artnet.com/artwork/105645/1087/wolf-kahn-half-light-and-half-dark.html http://www.artnet.com/artwork/424636922/430/wolf-kahn-white-ground-fog.html you can check his website at: “[color] is my primary interest.
